DALLAS — Elk Specialty Fabric Technologies, based here, said it is supplying its VersaShield fire-retardant barrier to Flex-A-Bed, an adjustable bed maker.
Flex-A-Bed, which makes its beds at its north Georgia factory, will use the VersaShield product in all of the mattresses it ships to California, where a strict open-flame mattress flammability standard is already on the books.
Max Morrison, president of Flex-A-Bed, said he began his search for a reliable FR source more than a year ago. He constructed test mattresses and had them shipped to a Chicago-area burn lab. None of those mattresses passed. When he heard about Elk’s VersaShield fire barrier fabrics, he was skeptical, he said. He met with an Elk technical representative and the two agreed on how to best include the fire barrier fabric in the manufacturing process. Test mattresses were constructed. All passed.“So much for my skepticism,†Morrison said. “I’ve been impressed with everyone I’ve worked with at Elk. They are knowledgeable and passionate about their product and what it can do for fire safety.â€He said that in choosing an FR supplier, “performance, quality and consistency were paramount†to Flex-A-Bed.Elk says its VersaShield FR fabrics help producers achieve compliance with the California standard, and with a new federal standard that goes on the books next year.Adjustable Bed Center provides information on electric, hospital, cheap, used adjustable beds, accessories and related health issues http://www.adjustable-bed-center.com
