Buy Your Watches with Care!

By:

Purchasing a watch is as easy as plunking down change for a cup of coffee, right? Nope. If you want to find a watch that matches your quality and price range then you will need to spend more time thinking about your watch purchase. If you take the time to research watches you improve your chances of finding the best deal. You will also ward off the opportunity to buy a watch impulsively that might not be the best watch for your needs.

You need to think about what attributes you want the watch to have. Do just want your new watch to give you the time of day, but what other qualities do you want it to have? How much time precision do you want the watch to contain? Minutes or milliseconds? Do you wish to have the watch remain in your family? These are just the types of issues you need to consider to find the watch of your dreams.

When it comes down to it, price is usually a major factor in any purchase. Watches are no exception. Know your price range before you get to the jewlery store. It is better to have a range instead of a specific number so you can consider a wider range of watches.

Where are you planning on wearing this watch? What activities do you plan on undertaking with the timepiece on? Do you have a physically demanding job where durability is an issue? Basically, think about your lifestyle or that of the person you plan on giving it to when making a purchase decision.

What kind of maintenance needs can you anticipate needing for your watch? If it is a mechanical watch, plan on having it serviced every three years to keep it in top operating condition. For battery operated (quartz) watches, plan on servicing your watch when replacing the battery.

There are a bevy of materials to choose from for your watch. Do you want plastic, gold-plated, stainless steel, or resin? The type of material you choose can be dependent upon your life activities. If you decide to go the gold-plating route then be aware that the price depends on the thickness of the gold-plate. This is measured in microns.

Different watches provide various water resistances. Do you want a watch that is mostly water resistant? Or are you just concerned about slight water contact such as rain and small water marks? If so, then you need a water resistant rating of 3 ATM. If you are going to be in constant contact with water then pick a water resistant rating of 5 ATM. This water resistance will do well when you go swimming.

As you can see from these considerations, buying a watch requires research that needs to be made before you go to the jewlery store. In summary you need to figure out where and why you will wear the watch plus how much your budget will allow for the watch. This way you improve your chances of finding the watch that has always been at the top of your wish list.
